Sawasdee Cricket Rules

Sawasdee Cricket rules are substantially similar to conventional cricket, with the following variations:

  • Each team comprises eight players, with age limits.
  • Bats are lightweight wood or plastic.
  • Balls are light compressed rubber.
  • Stumps are plastic pipe, in a wooden base. There are no bails.
  • The pitch measures 16 yards long.
  • The boundary is generally 30 yards from pitch.
  • The batting side bats and scores in pairs. Each pair faces two overs then retires.
  • Each batting pair starts with a score of 50 runs.
  • Each time a batsman is 'out', the score of the pair is reduced by five runs, and the batsman continues batting.
  • Each player on the fielding side bowls one over.
  • There is no penalty of "leg before wicket" (lbw).
  • The penalty for wides and no-balls isnormally two runs, and no extra ball is bowled.
  • There is normally only one umpire. He also keeps the score.
