Be Sure to Select the Correct Airport

As of this Sunday, March 25, 2007, Bangkok will have TWO active airports. The original airport, Don Muang, was shut down after the new airport, Suvanabhumi, was opened. However, for a variety of reasons, it has been decided to re-open Don Muang, but only for certain domestic flights. At this time, ALL INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS will depart and arrive at Suvanabhumi Airport.

Two domestic airlines, Nok Air and One-To-Go, will be flying ONLY from Don Muang. So, if you are flying on either Nok Air or One-To-Go for domestic flights, you will be departing or arriving at Don Muang Airport.

One additional airline, Thai International, will be schizophrenic and fly from both, presumably so they can easily provide connecting flights for international passengers and provide their own flights and code-share flights with Nok Air out of Don Muang. If a Thai flight has a 3 digit flight number, it will use Suvanabhumi Airport, while the 4 digit flight numbers are at Don Muang.

The airport code for Suvanbhumi Airport is BKK, while Don Muang has a new designator of DMK. Since your ticket could have been printed before this airport shuffle was definitized, we strongly suggest you check with your airline or a travel agent well in advance of your flights to be sure which airport you will be using.

There is no easy or quick way to travel between the two airports, so if it happens that you are flying into Suvanabhumi and then out of Don Muang (or vice versa), you might want to rebook some parts of your travel plans.
