Over the years we've made regular attempts at improving scoring facilities at Chiang Mai Sixes. And some of the developments have been a bit hit and miss. Last year we added a digital scoreboard and a handsome high perch for our gallant team of scorers. The new scoreboard was great in concept but awkward to operate .The high perch gave a better scoring viewpoint but only after poor Ric Richardson fainted from the heat did we realize that the metal roof, meant as a shield from the elements, actually made things hotter! Fortunately no damage was done, but anyway it was back to the drawing board….
This year, scoring at the 19th Chiang Mai Sixes , 2-8 April 2006 will finally get some very significant upgrades. First in line will be a computer operated digital scoreboard. We could never really replace dear old Brian Neve, who sadly died this year, and who had run the scoreboard manually and accurately for so many years. Instead, Sixes IT wizard Mike McCune , who last year brought us world broadcasting of Sixes match commentaries via internet, has this year figured some software and a system to operate the Sixes scoreboard by computer. The implications for this are great – the scoreboard can be positioned where it can be seen best by spectators, while it is operated comfortably from a remote location – more than one scoreboard can be positioned around the ground – and eventually we'll be able to link the scoreboard and the scoresheets…
The second upgrade will bring happy relief and cool comfort to the scorers themselves. Maurice (Bromley) has managed through a work contact to get a shipping container converted into a scorers box, which (with the help of CMW Warriors captain, Basharat Wani ) will be raised up as a high perch, and airconditioned. The photo below shows the box under construction. A few details remain to be sorted – the door shown in front on the photo, will be switched to the back of the box – the means of supporting the box up high needs to be worked out (current plan is to have it located more conveniently above the spectators' grandstand next to the Committee Tent ).
There are still some kinks to ironed out with both of these improvements, but this time, at last, the upgrades do look like significant improvements for Chiang Mai Sixes scoring. (SEE PHOTO BELOW)

A new, soon to be completed and airconditioned ,
Chiang Mai Sixes scorers box takes shape…..
