Heavy rains in Chiang Mai province caused extensive flooding in Chiang Mai city, and the Gymkhana Club cricket (and golf) and Boundary Bar facilities were left with a thick coating of mud (see the Before picture below). However, despite a dissappointing turnout of local cricketers (shame on us), clean-up work has proceeded apace - now , thanks to work by Club staff and especially the Gymkhana Golf caddies, plus a few volunteers including Gymkhana Cavaliers captain Eric Little (who provided the attached photos), the cricket pitch and nets will soon be ready for use again. Peter Dawson has estimated that more than 8 tons of silt were removed from the pitch, so in all we probably moved nearly fourty tons over the weekend.
True, the outfield still looks a bit slow at the moment, but thanks to the stirling efforts of the clean-up gang, plus the amazing growth promoting benefits of Chiang Mai's climate, everything should be tidied-up and back to normal well in time for the 19th Chiang Mai Sixes & 7th Sawasdee Cricket Cup on April 2 - 8th 2006. See you there!
