We only have 6 weeks to go for what looks to be the greatest Chiang Mai
International Cricket Sixes Tournament ever. 30 teams, 2 womans teams, 2 Star
Teams and a full programed Kanga Cricket Tournament. What a festival of cricket
it will be!
STARS:
We have an all-star line up of Stars coming with Mike Gatting and Tom Hogan
both back for a follow up on last years Stars Forum!! Kenny Jackson will be
at his wild best again with fellow South Africans Meyrick Pringle, Dave Callaghan
and Richard Snell coming, along with former Zimbabwe Test and World Cup player
Neil Johnson. The Sri Lankans will be again be coming to Chiang Mai in force
and rumours are that current test star Upal Chandana and experienced former
Test Star Roshan Mahanama are coming along! Our long term friends Amal, Gamini,
Lanthra and Hermal all look like again being with us to complete the line-up!!
What a great Stars Forum Night it will be this year!
Womans Teams:
There seems to be a new challenge being issued to the long time dominant
Chiang Mai Chassies! The World Womans 'Dixie Belles' are all geared to take
the series right up to the local girls! Even though beaten on the field last
year, we know how the tourists completed the win in the Boat Race Challenge
and are keen to go one further with a win on the cricket field in 2002. However
I think the local girls are keen to have their say and continue their control!
The World Woman Dixie Belles are still looking for recruits, so if there are
any woman coming along with teams that may be interested in playing (or supporting)
them, please contact Kitten (Karyn Brown) on Karyn.Brown@auspost.com.au.
or reply to me!
30 Team Chiang Mai 2002:
We would like to welcome the new teams for 2002:
- Shanghai Cavaliars (China)
- Ashwell Crusaders (England)
- CMW Warriors (Thailand)
- Manila Nomads (The Philippines)
- Wocca's Seagulls (Australia)
- Kiteboys (England)
- Dunnie's (Our old friend John Dunn"s team) (England)
The big news on new teams is that we hope to finalise some sponsor details
for the Afghanistan Cricket Federation team and we will be welcoming them
along to Chiang Mai 2002! Their country has been ravaged by war and it will
be perfect, that the best friendship cricket tournament in the world will
welcome them.
We would also like to welcome back the Gloucester Gipsies (England) and
Kelawar CC (Malaysia). Of course the Wombats and Darjeeling are back, who
of course have been coming to Chiang Mai ever since it all started. Silver
State, Ios Malakas and the Drifters are again with us for their umpteenth
appearance at the event!
The long term Australian teams will again be headed by Darwin Dilettantes,
and the Warathai's, with Perth Postels & Lords Taverners from the West.
The locals are again out in force and who knows WHAT name Wally will come
up with for his team this year, as I am sure that DIRTZ is a thing of the
past. Gymkana Cavaliars, Irish Pub, The Southerners and Pectels 69 make up
the balance of a strong local contingement.
A Very special welcome back also to Alma-Marist (South Africa), Awali Taverners
(Bahrain), Bangkok Postels (Australia/Thai/England), British Airways Dragons
(Wales), Kirby-Malzeard (England) and Jack Frost (England). What a fantastic
line up I am sure that you all agree.
Team Fancy Dress & Team song
This year the Pig Picking Night will again be held at the completion of
Round One of the tournament at the Gymkana Club under the big trees. It will
be on Wednesday night, the 3rd of April 2002. Apart from the fantastic food,
a wonderful setting and great entertainment, it is again the Team Fancy Dress
and Team Song night. There will be prizes for this years competition and the
judges will be on the look out for the best team efforts for both outfits
and the team song! So, please get the thinking cap on and start arranging
your team outfits and song!
Sugar Shack Postels Party:
Again one of the tournaments most popular sponsor, The SugarShack Bar (around
the corner from the Pornping Towers Hotel) will be holding the SugarShack
Postels Party, hosted by Oi and Benny. It will be held on Saturday the 30th
of March 2002 at approx. 7pm and everyone is very welcome!! So if you are
in town on the Saturday, come along as it has been fantastic over the past
couple of years with around 200 people coming along!
Amari Rincombe Hotel - East meets West Dinner
Long time keen supporter of the Chiang Mai Sixes, Marc Dumar welcomes us
all to the East Meets West Dinner being held at the Amari Rincome Hotel. The
final date for this fantastic Dinner/Buffet will be announced very soon, along
with the great entertainment, which also will be announced soon.
Irish Pub Night:
There again will be a tournament un-official night at Sandy's Irish Pub
this year. Final details will be issued to you all very soon, watch this space!!
Castrol Bulls Eye Competition:
Castrol this year will kindly start this competition for the first time!
They will supply a Bull's Eye for the ground and for every hit they will donate
5,000 Baht, of which 3,000 Baht will go to the batsman (Team) and 2,000 Baht
will go towards the Chiang Mai Junior Cricket Program!
Thai Cooking Classes:
Renita has again arranged Thai Cooking Classes for those who may be interested.
It was very popular last year and those who attended also enjoyed very much!
It is a One Day course and is great value at 700 Baht! Please contact Renita
on maurice@loxinfo.co.th or simply
reply to me and I will pass onto her!
Programme Advertising:
If anyone is interested in advertising in this years Tournament Magazine,
it is not too late, please contact Geoff Thompson on adskills@loxinfo.co.th
, maurice@loxinfo.co.th
or through me.
Used Cricket Balls:
Maurice has again asked that all teams please bring at least TWO used cricket
balls for the tournament. As there is a shortage of balls for the local teams,
it would be very much appreciated that if you would bring extra balls to cover,
it would be most appreciated
Kanga / Kwik - Cricket Balls:
Please will you assist us with the running of the Chiang Mai "Sawadee"
Junior Cricket Competition by bringing some Kanga Balls, if at all possible.
These balls cannot be purchased in Thailand and as the programme has now expanded
to approx. 22 schools and over 2,000 children are playing the game, there
is always a shortage of balls. (The larger ones please!)
Daily Results in your Local Paper:
If you would like the daily results to be published in your local paper.
Please will you e-mail Maurice on hbthai@loxinfo.co.th
or bring the contact details with you. Peter Cummins has again kindly offered
to send these every day, so lets all please make use of this service, so the
results will be around the world in hours!
Tournament Magazine 2002:
Geoff Thompson is keenly waiting for the Pen Portraits to be forwarded for
2002. Remember they can be funny and is a good chance to explain each team
member or supporter's individual Claim to Fame. Also if teams have photo's/graphics
(especially the new teams), please also send to Geoff. Unless basic simple
jpeg files, will you Snail Mail to him asap to:
Mr Geoff Thompson
244 Chiang Mai - Praw Road Ampur Sansai Chiang Mai 50210 Thailand
Geoff's e-mail again is adskills@loxinfo.co.th
and he requires the pen portraits BY MONDAY FEB 25th 2002 please.
Sunday Afternoon Games:
To ensure that all games fit in, it has been decided that some games will
be held at the Gymkana Club on Sunday afternoon, the 31st of March 2002! It
mainly involves the local teams, however if anyone is in Chiang Mai already,
please feel free to go to the Gymkana Club and support the teams.
Web-Site:
Pim has posted the re-newed Web-Site for the Chiang Mai Sixes, it is www.chiangmaicricket.net
Please go in and make comments as we would like to make full use of it! If
you have any photo's, stories or about anything you would like on your team
or about the tournament, please forward to Pim on pimk@chmai.loxinfo.co.th
Any Spare Scorers:
Anne Dawson is again after anyone that may be interested in helping out
with the scoring for 2002. So if you have anyone travelling with your team
that may be interested in helping out with the scoring, please contact Anne
on peterdaw@cm.ksc.co.th or get
back to me and I will pass on.
Spare Players:
I know that there are a number of touring parties that are quite large.
Are there any teams that may have a few spare players, as there are a number
of teams who are a little short on numbers and they would be able to use one
or 2 others.
Remember all - NO SPIKES PLEASE!!!
I very much look forward to seeing you all again (and meeting those people
from the new teams) and it is now not too far away.
If there is any information at all which you may need, please feel very
free to e-mail me on mmaher.padmir@bigpond.com
and I will happily respond with an answer, or if I don't know, I will find
out for you asap. Or in fact you have any comments or questions about anything
mentioned above, please also get back to me.
Regards all,
Cat
