2009 Team Photo
As the oldest cricket club in the UAE, Darjeeling CC have been participating in Chiang Mai since its inception, and are proud to be participating once again in 2010.
Jes Coulbeck – Team Manager
Tour number 16. Another wedding anniversary missed in Dubai, Jes will lead by example as usual, and hopefully the rest of the team can keep him sober enough for this left handed bat to smash plentiful sixes.
George Appleton – Team Captain
Tour number 8. George once again will be leading the Darjeeling side, and will be expecting his veterans to give 100% effort, especially on the field. Darjeeling’s average players age this year will be 45!!! Being ex Navy the discipline will once again come to the fore in leading the UAE’s finest into one of the competitions!!!
Chris Dommet
Tour number 6. Chris our wicky/batsman and resident fitness expert, will look after the training regime of the team, ensuring the under 40’s are getting enough rest, vitamins and proteins to see them through the rigours of the week, so at least 3 of our party may benefit from Chris’ pearls of wisdom.
Rudi Biscoff
Tour number 5. Rudi. our lanky Yarpie, returns with his usual vim and vigour and will be looking for plenty of runs and wickets. We’re hoping Rudi can influence the inexperienced tour members to be in bed early doors, as Rudi will once again lead by example.
Richard Cox
Tour number 4. Richard will not be selling himself off to the highest bidder this year, and will actually be playing for his own club. This experienced “pie chucker” will of course be offering his words of wisdom to anyone who cares to listen, especially members of the umpiring community!!!
Stuart Matthewson
Tour number 4. The “Dubai Balloon” makes a welcome return to the Darjeeling side after missing out in 2009, allegedly to work commitments!! The Jack Daniels rep is already counting his bonus for March/April. Stuart is actually hoping to get a bat this year at his usual No 6 slot.
James Grisdale
Tour number 2. James will be on his best behavior this year, our fiery Yarpie/Brit will be fired up to take as many scalps as possible, and hopefully he’ll try to contribute on the pitch as well!!!
Nick Harvey
Tour Virgin. Nick our latest emerging all rounder, has listened in earnest to the tales of heroics performed by Darjeeling players over the past 22 tournaments, and agreed to try take his place in the annals of Darjeeling cricketing history. Sorry Nick we lied!!!!!
Non Players
John Deuton – Club Chairman
Tour number 3. “The Chairman” will once again be cheering his boys on from the safety of the Darjeeling tent and a specially flown in translator will be on hand to decipher John’s deep West Country murmurings into intelligible English.
Stuart Hardie
Tour number 9. Stuart will be jetting in from sunny Birmingham once again to support the Darjeeling cause, and will of course be on hand to offer advice, especially on the validity of the “sweep shot”. With cigar and brandy in hand, Stuart will once again be positioned as close to the bar as possible.
Ian Campbell
Tour Virgin. Ian has decided to follow as a Darjeeling faithful for 2010, mainly due to the fact that being an unemployed “brickie” in Dubai in March has much less appeal than 10 days of madness in Chiang Mai. Another Jack man, I’m sure he will find solice with Jes and Stuart at the bottom of a bottle.
