Blythswood PHOENIX

Blythswood CC logoThe BG's were founded in 1947 and hail from Dog Sh*it Park in Goodmayes, Essex. We have a long tradition of touring the scenic playing fields of England and over the last decade, have also dis-graced arenas in Australia, Europe, USA and SE Asia. We are also the previous winners of the Bulmers Ice Cricket World Championships held in Tallinn, Estonia 2007.

2010 will be our sixth Chiang Mai Sixes. We are now officially called Blythswood Phoenix - reborn from the "ASHES" of our once palatial clubhouse, please excuse us if our gear and persons have a hint more smoky rather than fruity aroma this year! Arsonists, retirements, injury, fatherhood and defections have hit us hard but despite these hiccups we have managed to put together a squad that will entertain opponents (boost their run rates), sponsors (boost their profits) and the local economy (boost health care)!

Lovee

Lovee doesn't often bother the scorers but he certainly did last year! After leaving Bangkok and spending a season playing in Perth he is looking forward to locking horns with the lads from Tuskers, climbing that Stairway to Heaven, trapping a few Foxes, Spotlighting the odd Lotus and consuming too much Sugar at The Shack. He also thinks he was robbed of a player of the day last year!

Sarbee

After a near death experience Sarbee has had the courage to roll over, push off one arm, put his feet on the floor (IV's still in place) and sprint to Heathrow. Such is the commitment of this Blythswood stalwart, Sarbee’s devotion to the club and the Sixes is only matched by his love of the Thai environment and its agriculture. A pig a year is Sarbee's motto!

Dread

The team manager may have to play this year. But whether behind the stumps, patrolling the outfield or sending down a few hand grenades there's always a single there. After dark it is a completely different story though. Dread never deals in singles!

Randy

Randy is a genuine veteran! The fact that he is a hairdresser to the stars probably explains why he spends more time with Barb's on the physio table and getting his hand and feet pedicured than he does in the field. Randy holds nothing back in Chiang Mai. He is totally committed on and off. Stairway to Heaven, Foxy Lady, Spotlight and Spicy can all vouch for the quality of Randy's scissors.

Dubb

A long time and generous sponsor of Blythswood, Dubb is finally making his Chiang Mai Sixes debut.
Dubb brings so much to our team, a wealth of knowledge, experience, humour and skill. Unfortunately none of these are related to cricket in any way shape or form. Dubb's biggest claim to fame is that he flew from London to Cape Town for the World Cup Final in 2003, walked onto the ground to take a piccee of the Indian team warming up and was promptly evicted before a ball was bowled. Now that's a passionate supporter!

JP

Another member of the party making his debut to Chiang Mai, although he has been acclimatising to Thailand with the help of Kim Ling! Whether he’s batting, bowling, keeping or fielding, JP is sure to leave a lasting impression on all those who witness his dedication to the BG’s cause!

Rajee

Any hitting of fours and sixes are a distant memory for Rajee nowadays as it is rumoured that he deals in units only! Scandals continue to follow the once clean cut, mild mannered, role model who now finds himself surrounded by allegations of sleazy affairs wherever he goes!

Old Blue Eyes

Old Blue Eyes! Blythswood icon, once an express opening bowler, juggler in the field, classic number 11 and the only one at the club who gives a sh*t about his job! Not coming to Chiang Mai and probably never will but rates a mention, anyway.

"Remember! Team spirit is built in the showers."
