Peter Hollibone (The Earl of Wombatshire). This is his 22nd Cricket Sixes. We wonder what new tricks he will have the Wombats performing this year, as we think we have seen them all. But the Captain is very creative and no doubt the tour will be as interesting and educational as ever. The Earls tea will still be in high demand.
Ken Dashwood (Wombatshire Chief Constable ). The Wombats are weakened this year as Dasher cannot bat or bowl due to a hip replacement and knee arthroscopies. H e will however appear in the old farts game and give sage advice and discipline to the team.
Neville Clearson (Poet Laureate) Also retired due to full knee replacement but otherwise as fit as ever. The knee causes havoc with airport security requiring removal of belts shoes trousers etc as security wont believe a word of it. Poet Laureate to the Wombats who one day may record it all for posterity.
Alan Tasker (Figaro) Wombat Court Jester and pitch roller. Still bowls a tricky leg spinner but a little slow in the outfield. However moves with amazing speed and enthusiasm at John,s Bar and the Foxy Lady.
Fritz Boegel (Lord Chief Justice of the Kingdom of Bullengarook) Authoritative speaker on all things of interest to Wombats ,eg cricket, politics religion , local government etc etc etc.Recently stood for the local council ,vowing his group could bring peace, justice and the Boegel way to the region Unfortunately the electors felt otherwise.
John Congleton (Archbishop of Bullengarook) . Has now joined Trafco International( the Captains CompanY) as General Manager. He now has the responsibility of not only the spiritual health of the Wombats and associates ,but also the management of them for offield activities. He will be busy.
Bryan Pickering ( Sommelier to the Wombats) Purveyor of select wines and adviser to the Wombats on all things related. Bringing extraordinarily good Magnums of red with him to raise the standards of the AGM wine appreciation dinner.
Terry Kersey (Sunshine). Ex umpire who hails from Queensland and is a fine example of the Banana Bending Tribe. Excellent bat and bowler and the hope of the Wombats for a few wins. Deserving of a title which can be discussed at the AGM. Should be interesting. Accompanied by good wife Heather.
John Webster ( Beef Baron) We can,t remember why he was awarded the Wombat Of The Year award which is probably just as well but no doubt the feats are likely to be repeated. A cattle baron who grows olives and makes olive oil and wine with grapes from his vineyards. We trust his cricketing form will be up to the usual standards.
Jim Callanan ( Chief Elephant) . John is president of the Elephant Club of Melbourne, a charitable organisation , who have done good works in Thailand in education. This has done little to improve his cricketing abilities and it appears elephants bowl better.
Bodie Galvin (Bushy). Hails originally from near Wagga Wagga . Little is known yet , but his CV is already impressive. He is now a Queenslander who claims to be a boneheaded fast bowler who likes to crack heads. Rides bulls for a hobby and says he does not drink coffee or take painkillers. As the best analgesic is said to be alcohol and as Wombats rarely feel pain as a result we will have to wait and see how he lives up to his reputation.
Mark Ferrier (Wombat Apprentice) (Wombat Apprentice) Should graduate this year after very promising rookie appearance at the last sixes. We have high expectations under guidance of his Master Woolley.
Peter Nitschke (Woolley). The Greenock Taverner who needs no introduction anywhere in Chiangmai. The Barrossa Valley is his home and grape growing is his game, although prefers to drink a lot of beer in Thailand. Our best bowler and big hitter.
Graeme Harry (Hot Towel Man) Formerly our bag man due to his importing activities but now retired. Will not be appearing on the pitch as he has lost a little of his early pace and keenness of eye. Performance off the field is still to be admired and very popular at the Crown Royal and Foxy lady.
Jim Cameron (Jersey Jim) New comer to the Wombats who hails from Jersey. Claims his batting and bowling is well up to Wombat on field standards. It remains to be seen whether he can hold up his end for the off field activities.
John Bell (The Laird of Jomtien). No introductions are necessary for this larger than life former player ( since 1988), umpire of distinction and now the Wombats No. 1 ticket holder. Keeper of the Earls tea and leader of the extensive and growing Wombats fan club. Also heads up the publicity department and is the Earls press secretary.
William Gibbs.Resident in Pattaya (Jomtien) with brother in law John Bell. Former Scottish farmer who is not now a great admirer of the EEC. More recently chaperoned Alan Tasker and Bellie around the bars of Pattaya including, we believe, several Katoi bars where they appeared to be well known. Bill will no doubt be giving a full report at the Wombats AGM.
