YARRAMBAT

2007 Team

Yarrambat, back for a fourth consecutive year in Chiang Mai have returned with their winning 2007 Joe Carpenter Plate squad in tact. All the boys loved the taste of victory last year and are looking for more silverware for the trophy cabinet back home. On the back of last year's success Yarrambat have picked up a lucrative sponsorship deal from the White Lotus Bar and Grill. The boys are looking forward to the exuberant support of Orn, Tom and the rest of the gang behind the bar.

DANIEL "FABIO" SHAW captain

19 years old and his 7th tour to Chiang Mai. Had a great year last year despite the rigours that come with turning of age. A keen cricketer who doesn't mind opening up and hitting the ball high and long into the horizon and a handy bowler to boot. At 19, and with a year of late nights and heavy drinking under his belt, he's become a "seasoned" veteran and we're looking for big things from Dan once again.

GAVIN "SHAWRY" SHAW

8th tour to Chiang Mai and his last as a player. Last year managed to throw his arm further than the ball in the first game resulting in a dislocated shoulder that has once and for all put his career to rest. Good to see him back at the bar within an hour of getting out of hospital. Will join the ranks of the deaf and blind this year as an excuse to make the annual pilgrimage to Chiang Mai.

TROY "HARVS" HARVEY

11th tour to Chiang Mai. As long as Troy continues to play cricket, the "gay dab" will remain a spectacle on sporting arenas. Troy has been of great assistance to Yarrambat in the off season spending many months in Thailand sussing out new bars for the guys on this year's tour. Known to hit a ball hard (even with a limp wrist). Handy with the gloves behind the stumps – not much else to say about this boy.

DALE "PLUGGA" MEREDITH

4th tour to Chiang Mai. Plugger is back again to prove he has what it takes, both on and off the field. There is no doubt about his singing and entertaining skills – these are (in)famous in Chiang Mai. What is in doubt is Plugger's ability to score enough runs to get his maiden retirement after 3 years in the tournament. Lucky he doesn't carry the moniker Iron Gloves (well awarded to Russ).

ANDY "CRANKY" COMANS

3rd tour to Chiang Mai returning with his "partner" Russell. The pair are looking to make the most of their time away together before Russell's family arrives midweek. Always gives a fair dinkum full on performance (on and off the field) – actually he performs much better off the field – ask Russell. Rumoured to have brought along a swing to Chiang Mai this year. The big fella has done a lot of travelling this year trying to increase his stamina and preparedness for the demands of the week! We wish him good luck!

RUSSELL "BOOKEND" LAMB

3rd tour to Chiang Mai and better known as "Mrs Cranky". Russell was in fine touch during last year's tournament and is looking to continue with this form. As a result of the outrageous stories concerning Cranky and his wife Russell that somehow managed to filter back to the Batcave over the past 2 years, Russell's wife and kids will be up midweek to throw some cold water on his otherwise free spirit. Perhaps this will ensure some sobriety towards the money end of the week – but don't count on it.

MICHAEL "CHIEF CLANCY WIGGUM" BURNS

11th tour to Chiang Mai and 4th year as Team Manager and special on field weapon for the Bats! After many years of cricket in Chiang Mai, Wiggums was delighted to take home another trophy. Has had many trips back to Thailand and Chiang Mai throughout the course of the year to relive the memories of the glorious finals victory and fantasise about what may be this year. You'll hear the dulcet tones of Wiggums on the commentary team throughout the week when he is not on the field, managing the Yarrambatians, acting as fines master for our group, serving behind the bar or eating his favourite chicken drumsticks!

SIMON "SIMO" BRAY

3rd tour to Chiang Mai. Now that Simo is 18, we fully expect him to back up some of the crazy things he has done at home through the later years of his adolescence and strongly suspect that he will turn into the Team's party animal. With his father slowing down and his Mum staying home, this will be Simo's year – or so he told me! Lightning quick bowler and solid batsman. Hoping to score more off the field than on this year. Impressive young player who along with the Captain will be visiting every night spot known to Chiang Mai.

This year we have another long
list of supporters including:

KIM and AMY SHAW

8th trip to Chiang Mai for the pair who have become an integral part of the tournament – Kim as a leading (but now aging) fixture of the Dixie Belle's team. Amy as a budding boat racer having no interest in the cricket itself – just the drinking and socializing.

MICHAEL "MAD-DOG" BRAY

3rd tour to Chiang Mai/, once as player and now for the 2nd year in a row as the Team's wine expert. Has been given full responsibility for looking after Simo this year with Caroline and Alicia being unable to attend the tournament – Best of luck Mad Dog!! Mad Dog is very much a cricket lover and is looking forward to catching up with all with a bottle of red permanently in hand and perhaps the odd Bloody Mary chaser not far off.

DAVID "CHILLER" CHWYLA

4th tour to Chiang Mai. Came last year without any family support but the abundance of stories that have since circulated have led to Dave's wife Wendy accompanying him this year for the FULL tour! Dave returns to Chiang Mai to again act as the teams' communication manager, media liaison, masseur, tactician, motivator, relationship manager, advisor to selectors, drinks tester and drinking partner to anyone who may need one at any time.

WENDY "THE ENFORCER" CHWYLA

3rd trip to Chiang Mai – prefers the shopping malls of Bangkok and white beaches anywhere but understands her duty to keep Dave in check. Tough job!

ROB "CHOPS" BERNARD

3rd tour to Chiang Mai – befriended the Yarrambat boys in 2006 and we haven't been able to shake him loose since. Thinks of himself as almost an Aussie – keep dreaming Chops. A great guy who is always on for a chat – just must remember to keep his mobile number to himself – oooh I love you long time Wob!

STEVE "TEXAS RANGER" WALKER

3rd tour to Chiang Mai sixes. A mate of Chops and living in Bangkok – poor fellow on the 1st count. Don't ever sit with him and bag players in the tournament – this has been known to backfire big time.

JULIE, NATHAN & KIRSTY LAMB

1st tour to Chiang Mai. Have decided to check up on Russell and delve into the cause of the fatigue issue that he seems to have each year around April. Julie will fit in well with the social side of things, Nathan is 16 and looking forward to seeing if all the things he has heard about Thailand are true, and Kirsty is a gun cricketer (played for Victoria) who is looking forward to the opening batting and bowling positions with the Dixie Belles.
