WOMBATS

2007 Team

Peter Hollibone – ‘Earl of Wombatshire'

Venerable Captain of the Wombats who has survived all previous Chiang Mai tournaments.   The Earl will probably be again seen fielding from a deck chair brilliantly sited in the shade.

Neville Clearson - ‘Poet Laureate' of the Wombats

We are still waiting for Nifty to compose the Wombats battle cry, but again we will probably have to settle for his unending supply of limericks.  Expected to perform well with his new knee on and off the field.

Ken Dashwood (Dasher) – ‘Chief Constable of the Kingdom Of Bullengarook'

Dasher is moving somewhat slower in his activities with knee and hip problems.  However, we expect the usual nocturnal bar activities, and Dasher will still be a danger to all when wielding the willow.

John Congleton – ‘Archbishop of Bullengarook'

Once again John has donned a mitre and will be available to conduct all religious ceremonies, weddings, baptisms and divorces. He will no doubt be seen in the Spotlight Bar converting waifs and strays to Wombatism.

Bryan Pickering – ‘Vintage Sommelier to the Wombats'

Bryan is Vintage Cellarmaster to the Wombatshire court and responsible for keeping the Earl in good humour with regular infusions of red and white wine.

Fritz Boegel – ‘Lord Chief Justice of the Kingdom of Bullengarook'

Fritz will continue to create arguments on all subjects, cricket, politics, women or other Wombat activities.  He will be the Wombat nomination for third umpire as his judicial skills will ensure a long and eventful investigation of each referral.

Peter Nitschke – ‘Wombat Greenock Taverner'

Woolly roams the Barossa Valley in true Wombat fashion, creating havoc particularly in the Greenock Tavern and the Prince of Wales pub.  Woolly quietly trawls through the bars of Chiang Mai and usually ends up with a good catch.

Mark Ferrier – ‘Wombat Apprentice'

Mark is an understudy to Woolly whom we are sure will definitely make his mark in Chiang Mail under the tutelage of Woolly, Dasher and the Earl.

John Callanan – ‘Chief Elephant'

John is President of the Elephant Club in Melbourne and whilst an elephant could be described as an exceedingly large Wombat, we are sure that John will come down to size and perform well in all Wombat activities.

Trent Verhagen

Dutchy is heir to the title of Minister of Fisheries and Other Smelly Things.  A transfer from the Marchwiel Outlaws who is eminently qualified to be a true Wombat.

Graeme Harry – ‘Wombat Hot Towel Practitioner'

An early rising Wombat who will be found pounding the pavement on dawn patrol on a mission of recovery of Wombats missing in nocturnal action.  Graeme will administer his magic hot towel therapy.

Paul Murphy – Welsh Wombat

Wombat Quizmaster and famous participant in the eggheads quiz fraternity.  Murph will conduct regular quiz clinics in the Spotlight Bar, Foxy Lady and a number of similar establishments.

John Webster – ‘Wombat of the Year'

John is the current holder of the Wombat of the Year trophy, well earned for valour above and beyond the call of duty when engaged in Wombat nocturnal activities.  The bars of Chiang Mai should be warned!

Mark Cole – ‘The Duke'

Mark is a partner in the Duke of Wellington pub in Bangkok which is a favoured establishment of all Wombats and particularly of the Wombats Number One Ticket Holder the Laird of Patpong (Johnny Bell).  We will no doubt find the Duke, the Earl and the Laird sharing a Johnny Red (or several).

Tony Onn – ‘Chauffeur to the Laird of Patpong'

Tony is the Personal Assistant to Bullengarook Royalty including the Laird of Patpong and the Earl, particularly during the Earl's tea drinking sessions.

Terry Kersey – ‘Sunshine State Wombat'

Terry will suspend his banana bending activities in Queensland to join the Wombats in Chiang Mai.  Terry is an ex-umpire with the unenviable task of trying to instruct the Wombats in an understanding of the rules of the tournament.
