A new Thailand-based team for the Spoon, the Steakies are yet the latest incarnation of Sixes Veteran (everything veteran) John Dunn. It is easier to list the teams John hasn’t played for in Chiang Mai than those he has (and no longer can). This year, in true to form secret service fashion, he is keeping his cards close to his chest about the make-up of his team, though we understand he has splashed the cash in the close season and acquired the services of an ex-Stuffed Beaver. The identities of this fine body of men, united we understand by affiliation to a particular purveyor of fine meats, will be revealed at the Opening Night Party. Other Spoon teams beware – has JD acquired the services of some legends of the game in his bid finally to win some Chiang Mai silverware – or will they be the usual collection of old soaks he normally brings along? One thing is certain, John will make up for the absence of a full team profile by going into the merits and demerits of his squad at enormous length with anyone brave or foolhardy enough to listen. And of course, opponents on the field will have to keep a look out for JD’s slower ball. He bowled one in 2004 and it hasn’t reached the other end yet.
