Andrew Spedding
Some say he will be here, some say he won't...on time will tell. Southerners legend is due to return to the field of Chiang Mai though being in the oil game may prevent him but somehow, Speddo will always find a way to turn up to have a bat and bowl and to search out where Jack lives!. A legend within the Southerners. Can bat, can bowl but won't field! Will miss his mate Uncle Vaughany this year so if you see him alone in the bars…..leave him alone!!
David "2 Ball" Metcalfe
The team pro this year flying all the way in from sunny Perth to show us what he had back in the 90's playing for the Southerners. Is in fact an international cricket but in his one and only tour playing for Thailand, only lasted 2 balls in 2 innings hence his nick name this days!. Still bowls with the Lennie Pascoe shirt and medal on complete with the wrist bands. Has been known to bat abit but is mainly here because he is a Southerner and will never let the team down no matter where in the world he is.
Nick "Wood" Enn
The local bloke from Isaan who is always up for a game with the Southerners is trying his luck up north this year. Crafty little off spinner who once played for Glamorgan 2's when they were a good side!! A good bat but this slog and smash game will test his muscles. A gentlemen and scholar by nature and a crafty talker who plies his trade of selling lubricants here in Thailand..no need to ask any further hey!
Gary Chatfield
Doctor Grass as he is known over here. A man who is responsible for nearly all the new cricket wickets here in Thailand and he does a bloody good job too! He is credited to construction of the Southerners own cricket wicket back in Bangkok at Harrow International School. Can hit a ball as far as he can hit a golf ball as long as the ball is on a tee! Returning to Chiang Mai again and again so is always welcome and even though Gary plays for the Siam Parrots in Bangkok, he is always welcomed at the Southerners at 6s time.
Carl Taylor
Finally got him to come and experience the sights, sounds and pleasures of Chiang Mai. A good 2s players for the club so that makes him an excellent 6s player though mainly off the field where commitment is really needed. Another English gents within the ranks of colonial rabble but a few years with the Southerners and that will all change no doubt!
Gonzalo Bouter
The first ever Dutchman to grace the playing arena for the Southerners and he is having such a great time, his father is in the club now! Being the offspring of an ex-Dutch international, this young bloke has already played in Dutch youth sides and has lots of promise and potential….though again, being with the Southerners will surely make that potential and promise disperse over time. A left handed tweaker who is always up for a game. Was sent to the Southerners to experience life before heading to university………must be a brave Father to do that to his son sending him to us!
Jamie Cutbill
He’s back and more willing than able! A bloke with a pretty decent set of guns and pecks on him returns to have a go again………at what, we really do not know!! Another English gent who has been with the club for 8 years and of course has definitely lost all those English gentleman qualities since being a Southerner. Like to use an SP and accordingly nicknamed SP.
Loves his cricket, loves to tell a story and can play a fair game. Last seen sporting a red Mohawk haircut though this may be all off once he arrives to Chiang Mai…..or his missus arrives back home!
Rod “Roo Dog” Stenberg
Making the trip up again from Aussie is a great effort from Roo Dog. Buggered if we know why the name Roo Dog but it does fit him. Keen to show why he is wanted by the Southerners and why we should keep him. Knows what a bat looks like, a ball looks like……….that’s it! A good mate of 2 Ball and always at hand with a spare body shirt and medal for his mate. Looking forward to a big week from Roo Dog.
Vaughan McClear
It must be noted that the Southerners stalwart will not be attending this year. Though not here, the spirit of Uncle Vaughany will be locked onto the Southerners. For some great reason, he will miss this year’s 6s as it is rumored he got himself married just recently and no longer will be called Uncle V, though fittingly the title of Daddy V will be bestowed upon him come later this year!
