2007 Team

Neil "The Morto" Morton

The Morto - A true sign of a great Captain or any leader for that matter is that they are always outstanding in their field....or in Morto's case lying in a pool of his own blood in the out field. He is still having nightmares from Choppy (Southerners) trying to finish the job off as he lay in the first aid tent. Regardless of the surmounting psychiatrist bills this hardy and foolish leader is again calling on his men from the Mekong Delta for a third tour. Stats will show he is the only member of Sa Pa CC to hit a six, beware opponents of him exacting revenge. For what he's not quite sure of.....delayed and prolonged concussion.....and if all else fails he'll be the first one at the bar, leading by example!

Steve "Stib" Drakeford

‘Leader of men', ‘the glue', ‘the real essence' only a few of the tributes.  Cut him and he bleeds Sa Pa CC.  He has forgone a lucrative contract in Sydney and moved into Asia; simply to prepare for the Chiang Mai tournament this year.  Rumour has it that the ‘Taranaki Taverners' (Jenksie) have even been trying to sign him in the January transfer window.  They must be hurting "sooo" bad from their flogging in the only real game of the 2007 competition. His third year at Chiang Mai, he now knows the lay of the land, watch out for a huge performance from this, the one and only Stib. No he is not the one who tried to catch the ball with his face.

Ian "Welshy" Welsh

Once famous for representing his village against the Dutch National ladies side (their clogs were great defence against his yorkers), he is now proud to represent Vietnam in cricket and Australia in eating. Last years white lycra swim trunks and array of bygone plaid shirts won him the inaugural ‘worst dressed on tour' award. Only returning this year due to his craving for corn flavoured ice-cream.

Adam "Dark" Green

Adam returns for a second crack at the CM 6's, no longer a virgin of the tournament or the Sapa team. A reliable right arm medium-quick bowler, second only to the Morto as a fieldsman and a boring as hell batsman,  Adam often finds himself trying to steer a very lost ship. Also an avid guitarist you might catch Adam belting out a couple Stones riffs at Tuskers Bar before hoping in the saddle and ridding his wooden elephant home.

Jimi "Light" Green

AKA - King Kong Jim. A Thai-boxing legend with a proud unbeaten record. Tends to gain weight easily between fights which accounts for the version you will be drinking with at the Gymkhana. Jimi is a trusted and committed vice-captain. With his skipper off the field in the final game of 2007, he saw his chance to lead this fine band of men and grabbed it with both hands - leading the team to a resounding defeat. Winner of last year's "Flintoff" award for always getting on the piss. He may be hard pressed to retain that with his fighting career to think about.

Iain "Thai Debo Snr" Davison

AKA  "The Late Nite Robot".  Eater of Indian Curry Good and Squid chips. Winner of last years Glen McGrath award.  Is making a good start towards fielding his own family team in years to come, so we will have to earn our spots. Pinch hitter, Pinch drinker,  Gamebreaker, Legend. Look out Chiang Mai, here it comes.

Hans "Hands" Krenmayr

This Dinky Di Viet has an affection for 'Bundy Rum', Irish lasses and an unholy union with a dog that has more lives than a cat. He is likened to Joel Garner (smile only), Mark 'Tubby' Taylor (penchant for air conditioning) and the 'Pigeon' Glen McGrath (pestiness off the pitch). A Builder by trade, if his deck work is anything to go by you are bound to get a few dodgy lengths. This Chiangers virgin was chuffed to receive his baggy 'rice-paddy' hat from his mentor, Dong Phat Ho the great 'left-arm Chinaman'. Welcome Hans to Sa Pa CC and to the Chiang Mai sixes experience.
