South African born Allan was educated at Durban High School and the University of Natal. He has been in sports and regular program broadcasting, both on television and on radio, most of his life. He was a presenter for Kenya Broadcasting Corporation for three years, then for the South African Broadcasting Corporation, and of late as MC of the major game shows and travel programmes for the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Services right up to 2007.

Allan is probably best known for his hosting of the annual Supermodel events that are broadcast throughout Africa each December. Programme build up, including quarter and semi-finals, is broadcast from exotic destinations such as Mauritius, the Seychelles etc. The finals are broadcast live and are mounted at the spectacular Elephant Hills resort, Victoria Falls.
