MOONSHINE WARATHAIS
10th Anniversary Tour - 1998-2007
Proudly Sponsored by

Soi Cowboy Bangkok
Player No. 63 - Steve Christie - "CRUNCH" – Tour No.10
Crunch is one of the original tourists who has been on all 10 tours to Chiang Mai. He has also toured Singapore, Hong Kong, Phuket & Shanghai Sixes events. Will be celebrating hard on this Anniversary tour & loves the Thailand lifestyle. He has made many friends over his years coming to Chiang Mai & will attempt to have a beer with all of them and even try to play some cricket in between socialising.
Player No.8 - Ian Liddell - "REDS" – Tour No.10
Reds is also one of the original Warathai tourists. Will be trying hard to have a good tournament as he may not have many more matches in him. The off field activities will look after themselves. Reds has blossomed as a batsman over the last few years & will be a vital ingredient if we are to be a success on this anniversary tour.
Player No. 72 - Darrell Mepham - "MONSTER" – Tour No.8
Monster has been the team manager over the many years he has been coming to Chiang Mai, but may pull on the whites & play in the spoon competition this year. Watch out for his mystery ball when he is at the bowling crease & when batting has an eye like a dead fish. A strong early tip for player of the tournament.
Player No. 30 - Warren Pugh – "WOKKA" – Tour No.8
Wokka will be his usual jovial self this trip & will be seen out & about late into the evening while in Chiang Mai. He has used this preparation on all of his tours & it seems to work for him. Will contribute with bat & ball when needed & always gives his best.
Player No. 22 - Stan Spink - "HUMPTY" – Tour No.7
Humpty has had many memorable trips to Chiang Mai & this trip I suspect will be no different. Has performed the duties of Ass. Manager for the last few tours but may also play in our spoon team this trip. Is a past Turd of the tournament winner, but has kept a low profile since winning this prestigious award. Will be working hard NOT to win it again.
Player No. 27 - Trevor Chappell - "TC" – Tour No. 6
TC has been playing with the Warathais now for a number of years & still hasn't
quite worked us out. TC is still a very classy all-rounder, who somehow keeps
the rest of us on track. TC is very approachable so please come along &
annoy him as much as you like but remember entry into our tent must be
accompanied by a few beers for sacrificial purposes to keep the gods of cricket
appeased.
Player No. 11 – Grant
Jones – "GRUNTER" – Tour No.5
Grant has toured Chiang Mai many times and is still to show his best
form. Don't go planning on seeing anything on this tour either. Has only played
a few matches this past season so he will definitely be fresh to show his
expertise in Chiang Mai. Unfortunately his best is usually reserved for the
after match drinking session.
Player No. 33 - Simon Porter - "SPORTER" – Tour No.4
Simon is on his 4th tour to Chiang Mai & is still to show
everyone his best form. Is overdue to be our batting star. Has shown glimpses on past tours but this has usually been a long time after
play has ceased for the day. Is the fastest drinker in our group but
unfortunately crashes & burns well before midnight.
Player No. 34 - James Reynolds - "SPEED" – Tour No.4
Speed is the
likable larrikin of the group whose typical Aussie attitude is sometimes a bit
quirky. Will be a main player in the spoon team and will enjoy his time in
Chiang Mai immensely. His cricket bag
contains all the essentials you need for a day at the cricket – Packets of
cigarettes (10), Stubby Holder, Cigarette lighter (2), Protector (To protect
the family jewels), Slim Dusty cassette & another few packets of cigarettes
(just in case).
Player No. 3 – Slavko Erak – "SLAV" – Tour No.4
Slav has recently
been deposed as the No.1 Serbian cricketer in the world by his young son,
Logan, who is performing way above his old mans
ability in the local Under 10's cricket team. Slav will try to win back his
World No.1 ranking on this tour, but alas I think his best in well behind him.
His long time friend, Sam Cougar, has been a constant companion on previous
tours and I feel he will be looking to him for support if things don't work out
on the cricket field.
Player No. 28 – Bill
Lawrence – "RICKY" – Tour No.3
Ricky will be the
consummate professional on this tour and will acquit himself very well in all
disciplines of the game of cricket sixes. After the cricket is over for the
day, he can be seen helping disadvantaged backpackers find there way around. A Good Samaritan who is selfless in his support of others.
Player No. 15 – Ben
Sharp – "BEAR" – Tour No.3
The Bear is
back!!! If you know Bear he is difficult to forget. A lynch pin and the spoon
team will rely on him to score heavily to have competitive totals to
defend. I predict Bear will be a star of
the spoon competition not only for his playing ability but for his on & off
field antics.
Player No. 38 – Keith Roddom – "CHEF" - Tour
No.2
The Chef was a virgin tourist last year but made such a big
impression on everyone that he has been invited back once again. He cooked up a
storm on a few occasions last trip & has assured us everything will be
bigger & better this tour. Chef will be a spoon player with us this trip
and will be looking forward to making easy two's into strolled singles. He will
be defending his "Cookies Ashes" title for the worst dressed cricketer in
Chiang Mai with a passion.
Player No. 40 - Mark Wood – "WOODSY" – Tour No.2
Woodsy is backing up after a most memorable tour last year. He is hoping to hit the heights of last year,
but preferably on the field this time round. Has been practicing hard to assert himself in the "A" team but will need to buy the
selectors a few more beers yet, before he gets their votes.
Player No. 9 – Peter
Thompson – "THOMMO" – Tour No.3
Master Thommo is making his third tour of duty to Chiang Mai after
a few years in the wilderness. He will return bigger and better than ever and
may even have a game in the spoon team, which he will impart his extreme
cricketing wisdom. His Jedi apprentice is none other than the chef and they
will go on many dangerous missions together on this tour and I hope that the
force is with them, otherwise they could go over to the dark side.
Player No. 41 – Eddie Cashen – "BACKPAGE" – Tour Virgin
As his name
suggests Eddie will be looking for the headlines on this tour. Eddie will
definitely make the news headlines, but probably not for the reasons he hopes.
I can see it now "Cricketer takes on Tuk Tuk and loses" or "Shane Warne
look-alike found in compromising batting position". Good Luck on you virgin
tour.
Player No.42 – Robbie
New – "CHEW" – Tour Virgin
Robbie is also a
late inclusion to the touring party and will be bowling his in/out swingers
during this tournament. Please watch out as most of them will be returned with
credit into the thronging crowd huddled around the boundary. Has heard a lot
about the social side of Chiang Mai and will at some stage of the tour be
wearing the yellow jersey as leader of the Tour De Chiang Mai.
