Marchwiel Outlaws

This year's Chiang Mai International Sixes sees the lads from that small North Waleian village, Marchwiel, return for the fourth consecutive year. The usual suspects are turning out again, including Dingo Morrison, Dutchy "Hammocks" Verhagen and Phil "The Body" Oddie. Also on side is the irrepressible and larger than life character Johnnie "Dings" Bell. The remainder of the gang are all newcomers to the squad except for our off season recruits from the Perth Postels, Phil "Cat" Catterall and Cam "Spider" Park. After twice winning the Bowl division and reaching the Cup final in their only other year, the Outlaws hope to make a bigger impact on the pitch this season.

Outlaws Player Profiles

Johnnie "Dings" Bell (Team Manager) - Although Dings' whereabouts are top secret these days, we are told he has been in serious training over the winter months in a hot western climate. The man has put his past injuries behind him and barring any niggles has promised to be fit to fulfil the spinning gap left by the missing Hashan Tillekekaratne. Despite being past his best days on the field, the man with the plan has been practising hard in his adopted country and will definitely play a strong part in this year's campaign. A big turner of the ball and swashbuckling hitter are traits that the Outlaws missed last year. Along with his potential recall to the shortened version of the game, he will also be responsible for team management once again.

Dean "Dingo" Morrison (Captain) - Dingo returns once again to lead the side for the fourth year running and is confident of an improved performance this year given the quality improvements that have been brought into the side. Dingo's main concern is keeping that perpetual crazy man, el Dutchos Hamcockos Verhagen away from moments that cause stray disillusionment.

Phil "The Body" Oddie - The big Manchurian is back for his second time in a row and is keen to continue on the front foot. Bods was the surprise packet of the team last year, bowling very economically when called upon in tough situations. With an uncle in the form of Bill Oddie, bird watching is in the family and is definitely on the plate for this young Tiger although any type of duck will do!!!

Trent "el Dutchos Hamcockos" Verhagen - What more can be said about this man? The Victorian under 19 manager cut this guy as a young fella and look what they missed out on! A man that needs no introduction to any of the wildlife or hammocks in Chiang Mai, this lifeless loveable character will surely again be in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Although "El Dutchos" moves like "a snail in glue", his deceptive pace and movement will no doubt again prove a vital part in our campaign for success.

Phil "Cat" Catterall - Cat has been recruited from the mighty Perth Postels and is seen as one of our big off season finds along with Cam Park. A regular on the Chiang Mai circuit for several years now, his experience will prove vital along the trip. A top cricketer and genuine bar time storyteller who plays and sees it how it is, Cat will find himself at home at the top of the order for the Outlaws this campaign.

Cam "Spider" Park - Another off season recruit from the Postels is the little man with the long leg. Spider's power hitting at the top of the order with Big Cat has bolstered the batting line-up for us. Spider hopes the bars in Chiang Mai continue to supply stools for him so he can stay clear of the toads and get a decent view of the toffee!

David "Jersey" Workman - The man from Jersey is a new recruit to the Outlaws and the Sixes this year, although his main line of business has taken him to the Far East before. A keen cricketer with a great shot over cow corner - handy around the pool table we also hear!

Darren "Elvis" Bettis - Elvis is the Marchwiel Second XI skipper and club coordinator and is making his first visit to the Sixes. Handy with the bat, ball and stump in hand. Although a teacher by trade, there is plenty to be taught to this new nipper.

Percy "Mr Cricket" England Pallett - Apparently Percy is a former player of the tournament and a former top class cricketer (ah, so you heard that one too Deano: ed.). A newcomer to the team and will be welcome with arms wide wide open. I'm sure his crack along the way will be appreciated.

All the best AND fingers crossed!

The Outlaws
