Dilettantes team photo, 2006
Dilettante n. & a. 1. n. Lover of the fine arts; amateur; one who toys with subject or studies it without seriousness. 2. a. Trifling, not thorough; amateur. [It., f. part. of dilettare f. L delectare DELIGHT]
GREG BICKNELL -
Travelling to Chiang Mai for his 17th tournament, watch for Jeckle & Hyde performances. Still playing the odd game of seme-serious cricket in Darwin – should have learnt by now.
ROGER “Twenty20”WECKERT -
Official timekeeper for the Dilettantes, can be relied upon to get most of his itinerary right – bedtime, mealtime etc. Has been known to miss the odd plane but that can happen to anyone.
LUKE “REAL DEAL” TEAL -
Virgin Dilettante but with good pedigree – from Victoria. Travelling as a single man (at the time of publication!) should be a great contributor to the soapy lilo fund. Has some cricketing ability, which will be of little value to him on tour!!
SHAUN WILLIAMS -
Our sole International and an absolute star performer on his last visit to the Chiang Mai Sixes. Expect to see him sneak into town later in the week, if we can get him to avoid other enticements in the kingdom. The team’s ballroom dancing instructor, also been known to do the odd bit of cricket coaching in Bangladesh for a living.
CHRIS HERON -
Due to the retirement of a couple of key Dilettantes Wally forsakes the role of tour manager to again wow the crowds with his cricketing prowess. Will take on the role of team medical adviser, particularly in the area of plastic surgery.
JOHN “JM” MARSHALL -
JM is a legend of Darwin Cricket and has been around since Methuselah was a pup. Will be interesting to see how the Darwin competition survives his absence at the start of a new season. Softly spoken but carries a big stick! Will see if he can put it to use in the kingdom.
DOUG “DUNCAN” KERR - Dougie returns to Chiang Mai after an absence of 14 years but we won’t see him gracing the playing fields as has taken on the key role of assistant team manager. Another potential Jeckle and Hyde.
JIM FORD -
Read all about Jim in the umpires pen portraits, but they don’t know him like we do.
The Dilettantes are without long termer in Gaz, who has hung up the boots (married) after 10 tournaments. We hope to see him back next year!!
