Message from the Governor,
Tourism Authority of Thailand

On behalf of the Tourism Authority of Thailand I am delighted to welcome all the cricketers, their friends and supporters of the 19th Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes. Thank you once again for making northern Thailand home to one of the world’s biggest and most popular amateur cricket tournaments. Nineteen years on the bounce is a great record and a valuable contribution to the work of our Northern, Region 1 office in promoting Chiang Mai tourism. We are pleased to continue our support for the Chiang Mai Sixes and proud to share in a small way with your success.

After three consecutive months of flooding in Chiang Mai late last year, business is still struggling to recover, and it is a credit to the Sixes that you have helped repair extensive damage done to the venerable Gymkhana Club ground in time for this year’s tournament to take place. With 31 teams from 11 counties registered to participate, many returning time and again, the Sixes is an important annual event on our tourist calendar.

We appreciate too the support you are giving to the program, first inspired by the Chiang Mai Sixes, to introduce cricket as a sport in Thai schools. The effort to introduce this sport, which is synonymous with good sportsmanship, for the wellbeing and education of our youngsters is very worthwhile.

I hope that you will all enjoy another wonderful holiday week of sport and friendship in beautiful Chiang Mai. Keep fit and healthy. I look forward to being able to welcome you all back again next year for a big twentieth Sixes birthday party !

x Juthamas Siriwan
