It is with enormous pleasure, and a certain amount of relief , that I am able to welcome you all again to take part in the this year’s 19th Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes & 7th Sawasdee Cricket Cup. The worst flooding we’ve had at the club in living memory , wiped-out the golf course, driving range and cricket field, not to mention damage to other parts of the club and total loss of operating income . After the third inundation back in October things were looking very bad for the future of Gymkhana. And we are still not out of the woods. However, thanks to funding from the Sixes, workers led by local cricketer volunteers removed tons of silt and totally re-turfed the cricket field area. This work was only completed in early January, but with nature’s help we hope you will now find our cricket ground (at least) in better condition than ever! The larger area of the club’s golf course is still a work in progress, however it is open again for playing. As the oldest sporting club in Thailand (founded 1898) , we are proud and keen that Chiengmai Gymkhana Club should continue to play host to the Sixes. It is beyond doubt northern Thailand’s longest running international sports event and now one of the most popular amateur cricket festivals worldwide. Please make yourselves at home with our Gymkhana Club facilities. We hope you’ll have a memorable week of sport, fun and friendship both on and off the cricket field.
