Moonshine Warathais team photo 2005Player No. 1 - Steve Christie - "CRUNCH" – Tour No.9
An experienced Sixes player having played sixes in Australia, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hua Hin & Shanghai. Has mastered the art of playing while slightly the worse for wear and will no doubt pass on his expertise in this area to the new players on tour.

Player No.8 - Ian Liddell - "REDS" – Tour No.9
Reds is now a director of the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour, which is a good excuse for him to travel Asia & have a good time. Playing less & less cricket these days as age may have caught up with the old boy. What am I saying I think he just parties too hard & finds it difficult to get out of bed in the morning.

Player No. 17  - Darrell Mepham - "MONSTER" – Tour No.6
Monster has been touring with the Warathai's now for a number of years and you would think he had the role of team manager sorted. But alas NO!!   He still thinks that M.A.N.A.G.E.R stands for Must Arrange Nocturnal Adventures, Get Everybody Rat-faced. He still has a lot to learn our Monster.

Player No. 19  - Warren Pugh – "WOKKA" – Tour No.6
Wokka is our overseas import who has played on & off for the Warathai's for a number of years. He is still recovering from a draining Shanghai trip last September and should be fully recovered by the start of this tour. Has been working on his six-pack for the last few months but it is shaped more like a keg at this point in time.

Player No. 20 - Bill Pappas – "PAP" – Tour No.3

Pap is making a return to Chiang Mai for his third trip after a few years break. Has been perfecting his late cut during this time and has it working extremely well.  Is planning to open a betting shop in Thailand so he has somewhere to have a punt while he is out of Oz.

Player No. 22 - Stan Spink - "HUMPTY" – Tour No.6

Humpty's last tour is best forgotten for a number of reasons.  During his last trip I am sure his headband must have been too tight as he was always seen down the members end enjoying himself, and even at the change of overs he wanted to come from the wrong direction. He will need to stay very alert on this tour so as not to make these same mistakes again. If I was Humpty I would retire the headband and concentrate on playing straight and stick to playing the 18 holes of golf.

Player No. 27  - Trevor Chappell - "TC" – Tour No.5
TC is our food, drink & nutritional advisor on tour. Anything that TC eats or drinks we all stay well clear of, as it could actually be healthy. He always looks forward to the Pig-Picking night as the smell of cooking flesh makes him as horny as a rock spider. TC will be the main stay of the team as he is usually the only one sober enough to bat, bowl & field. The rest of us are there to make up the numbers. If only God hadn't invented alcohol.

Player No. 33 - Simon Porter - "SPORTER" – Tour No.3
Simon has seen the light!!!! Although not very often on overseas cricket tours. He is strictly a night-time player who scores best after midnight. The team have purchased a black cape and hat for this tour, so he might even grace us with his presence during daylight hours at the cricket this year. He has secured the Transylvanian Suite at our hotel where there are no mirrors and no light switches in the room. His favourite drink on tour is of course a Bloody Mary.

Player No. 34 - James Reynolds - "SPEED" – Tour No.3

With a nickname like "Speed" you would think that this bloke would be sending them down like Brett Lee or Steve Harmison but the only things speedy about him are his drinking of beer, his driving of Tuk Tuks and the speed of which he gets through a packet of cigarettes. I am sure he sleeps with a bunger in his gob most nights. He is the consummate tourist; he eats anything, drinks anything and loves having a good time.

TOUR ROOKIES

Player No. 37 – Keith Roddom – "CHEF"  - Tour Virgin
The Chef as his name implies is a magnificent cook who takes pride in his work. He is even bringing along his tools of trade to prepare a meal for the CBB's while on this trip. He has been around the world previously but the Chiang Mai cricket will open even his experienced eyes to a large number of new sights, sounds, smells and cultures. As a cricketer he is a great cook but is very keen for a game with one of the Spoon teams. An old prop forward from way back he loves telling stories of his illustrious career over a few dozen beers or a few bottles of nice red.  I hope you take some photos this trip so you have something to remember the tour.

Player No. 38 – David Barrett – "SMASH" – Tour Virgin
This is also Smash's first tour to the Chiang Mai cricket. He is also an old rugby player who enjoys his cricket nearly as much as a beer. He shouldn't have any trouble satisfying his appetite for both on this tour. His claim to fame is that while bowling an over at this year's Waratah World Sixes he returned the superb figures of 3 for 2. Smash will be looking to have a good tour both on & off the field.

Player No. 39 – Ashley Weekes – "ASH" – Tour Virgin

Ash is our final virgin for this tour and should acquit himself well. He is a superb striker of the cricket ball and can bowl a useful over now & again. The real test is whether he can sustain the frenetic pace of a Chiang tour for the full week. A number of talented players have tried and failed in the past but I think Ash has what it takes to last the distance. Time will tell!
