Cricketeers, Crusaders in Cup final

Awali, Shanghai to battle for Shield title

JULIAN TURNER

Chiang Mai _ Ashwell Crusaders will face Bangladesh's Cricketeers in today's Cup final at the Chiang Mai Cricket Sixes to decide who is the best team at this excellent competition. Ashwell won Group A of the Cup with a victory over the Perth Postels. Ashwell's J Powell top-scored with 31 before retiring to help compile a 70/2 total. Ashwell's proficiency at the crease was matched in the field with four catches in the Postels 68/4.

The Cricketeers saw off the Warathais to set up the Ashwell clash. The Warathais were in contention until Trevor Chappell was out and after that the Cricketeers romped home.

Also in the Cup, the Vagrants (80/2) had too much for the Sugar Shack Postels (70/3).

The Tokyo Wombats 57/2 scuppered Jamesons Dilettantes (54/3) in the Shield and the Southerners (87/2) edged past the Divine Felons (81/1).

The Awali Taverners (82/0) booked their place in today's Shield final with victory over the Irish Pub (82/3). Awali will face Shanghai Dragons, who cruised past Silver State (80/0 to 53/3).

In the Bowl competition, the Drifters 74 without loss saw off a fine effort from the Floggers and Robbers (73/3). The Lords Taverners are already through to the Bowl final and their opposition will be decided today.

The Taranaki Taverners will go for glory in the Plate final today following their win over Sapa CC yesterday. The Taverners 69/1 was too much for Sapa, who totalled 61/2.

Almar will be the side trying to deny the Taverners bid for the Plate trophy following their 85 without loss win over Blythswood (57/1).

The unbeaten Camel Bar Humps fired themselves into the final of the Spoon with a 60/0 total, which included a generous 25 extras from the Wombats (56/1).

The Humps will be keenly watching this morning's match between Jamesons Malakas and the Armadillos to see who they will face for the silverware.

The Malakas (54/1) pushed themselves into contention with victory over the Bangkok Postels (53/0) while the Malakas (51/0) saw off the Cavaliers (50/1).

The junior Sawasdee Cricket Cup was won by Hang Dongs Baan Saimoon while Chol Prathan Phataek, Doi Saket, were runners-up. The awards were handed out by Bangkok Post sports editor Roger Crutchley and his Nation counterpart Alan Parkhouse.

There will be a Stars Challenge Trophy match today between former pros and an amateur select
