Chiang Mai _ In a very full day of cricket at Chiang Mai Gymkhana Club, the Sixes main competition round one continued with several strong cup contenders continuing to dominate.
Australia's Perth Postels remained unbeaten with three wins in a row as they beat a very handy Cricketeers side.
The Postels held the Bangladesh team to 66 for 3 wickets, then edged past them in the final over of their innings to win by the odd run.
That was thanks again to what is turning out to be a winning batting partnership for the Perth team of Brit "Percy" Pallett (34 n.o) and South African Kenny Jackson (20).
The Cricketeers went on to redeem themselves in their second match of the day against the STH Drifters. They smashed the highest score of the tournament with 101 for two wickets, while the hapless Drifters, still without a win so far, managed only 43 in reply.
The Lords Taverners _ another former Sixes championship team from Australia _ also remained on course for the Cup competition.
Damien O'Hara was back in the team and they scored 87 for one and then grabbed a bonus point by bowling out The Divine Felons.
From the other side of the world, an Ashes-type clash looks on the cards with three English sides seeming hard to beat this year.
Last year's Cup Winners YesNoWaitSorries got past MBMG Dilettantes, although the match went down to one run off the last ball for the defending champs to remain unbeaten.
Former cup winners Gloucestershire Gipsies (89 for 0) made easy work of Silver State (66 for one), and last year's Cup runners-up Surrey Vagrants _ with ex -English county captain Paul Pritchard batting well _ won both of their opening matches comfortably.
Yarrambat CC, from Australia, also looked strong winning their opening match against Suger Shack Postels. It remains to be seen if they will come through as a third Aussie contender to balance the English triple threat.
A better than average crowd stayed around to watch the second day of competition and settled into Woods View tent at the ground was Myles de Vries, founder of international cricket Sixes, who has been meeting many old friends and enjoying the tournament he started.
Today continues with more round one games, when the picture of which teams will compete for Cup , Shield, Bowl and Plate should become much clearer.
Play starts today at 8.40am with the Lords Taverners vs the Southerners from Thailand
