Team at 2002 Sixes
Paul Kwong
Club President. Holds the record of being the slowest talker in Town.
You could finish smoking a cigarette for him to finish a sentence.
Opening batsman for the club and also the club captain for the very very
social side. Can't bowl. Tried once but almost killed the square leg umpire.
Fun chap but can't drink much as he suffers from "Rich Man disease" - Gout
N. Balachandran
On his third tour to Chiang Mai, Balachandran has been known to party all night long and still play good cricket the next day. Known as JB or John Bala, he is a medium pace bowler who is also very useful with the bat. On his last tour he was mistaken for a former Sri Lankan Test player by none other then Mike Gatting and this was probably due to a combination of is bowling abilities and his beer belly. Usually one of the first to open the innings at the Sugar Shack and consistently closes it as well.
Sitharather 'Who-Da-Man' Moorthy
The resident Joker. Founding member of the SSCC.
A dangerous off-spin bowler who turns the ball like a top.
A smooth talker and is an R&B fan. Play the music and he'll be the first on
the floor.
Word of caution though.... LADIES BEWARE. He sing like George Benson and
moves like Don Juan DeMarco.
Jonathan Ling (Joe Nathan Lingam)
One of the newest member to Silver State Cricket Club and on his first tour to Chiang Mai (Chiang Mai Virgin). A Chinaman who has been adopted by the Indian community, Jonathan is a very good fielder who tries hard on the field. He has a good eye for the ball although this has only been seen on the golf course. One of the fastest person to down a glass of beer and this has won Silver State many games off the field. Jonathan is ready to make his mark in Chiang Mai and should be the new up and coming Chinaman for Silver State.
Charlie "CC" Chelliah
Better known as "CC", has been to the Chiang Mai 6' with almost all the teams from Malaysia to make the pilgrimage to Chiang Mai. Gone are his ‘Afro’ days, but he can still swing his ‘bat’ Calypso style both on and off the field. Former president of the now defunct "Tequila Snorter' Club", this man will most likely be seen at Sugar Shack with a cigar on one hand and a pint on the other looking for a ‘prey’ to devour.
Sanjay Subbanna
An unknown quantity to the Silver State, born in India, works in Boston, plays cricket in Boston and Cape Town and played for BA Dragons last year at the Chiang Mai 6' and now for Silver State. Call him ’nomad’, ‘mercenary’ or what may you, but this man typifies the ultimate cricket lover who has been places to watch and play the game he loves the most.
Miss Jackie Yeoh
Wacko Jacko is the inspiration to the team. The driving force that will provide the support from behind. Also a Chiang Mai Virgin, Silver State is hoping that for the first time they will have a representative in the ladies team. (Jackie does not know this yet). With her good looks and wonderful personality Silver State is hoping that lady luck will be with them this year. Jackie Yeoh has never held a cricket bat but as some will testify, she has a mean left hook and knows how to hit a ball where it hurts most. Jackie may need to play for the men' team if the organizers will allow it.
