Mark "Markie Boy" Talalla
He's back, after being sorely missed by all last year. A dedicated Silver
Statesman, he made a real impression on his previous tours in every respect
except perhaps his cricket. Recently married (he somehow convinced the wife
not to come) he has warned that he will be at his best this year (for what
he has yet to tell). Left arm slow bowler and never gets to bat anyway.
Jarod Lopez
"J-Lo", as he is popularly known is the present Silver State captain.
A debutant Chiang Mai sixer, J-Lo agreed to come after being told that it
was a highly competitive, serious cricket tourney where everybody comes focused
on the cricket. He might still think it to be so when he arrives, but that
is to be doubted after a night at the Sugar Shack and bunking in with Marky
boy. To prepare mentally for this trip, he has sought counsel from Akbaruddin,
who sadly is unable to make the tour this year. Right arm medium bowler and
firm striker with the willow.
Dr. Arun Kumar
Doc's most notable performance in his career at the Chiangmai Sixes was
to revive a player who collapsed on the field during a game. That he did with
the mere threat of administering mouth to mouth resuscitation. The lively
"talker" and "historian" in the team, he can be expected
to provide the "on field" and "off field" laughs for all
and asunder (whether or not he intends it). Claims to be a qualified doctor,
but we still opted for Markie Boy (who is married to a doctor) to be our medic
for the tour. Shed 60 pounds for this tour and is in prime shape. Solid right
hand opening bat and could be a surprise with the ball if he gets a bowl.
"Sniffer" Sivam Kumar
Sniffer is on his umpteenth tour of Chiangmai. Still has an undiminished
zest for life and its attendant vices, and you can be sure to catch him at
the popular nightspots around the town. Sniffer is one of the dedicated bachelors
of Silver State having resisted all efforts by the team to get him hitched.
He still promises much by way of his cricket, just as he did the first time
round. Silver State are still waiting. Very handy right-arm medium bowler
and is presently in good batting form.
Sitharather Moorthy
Widely regarded as the live wire in Silver State. His reputation is such
that he was once paid to attend an out of town game, not as a player but as
leader for the support and to bring disrepute to the game. Sithar is looking
forward to his first Chiangmai Sixes having been fed year in year out with
stories from those who have played. Also took counsel from Akbaruddin to prepare
himself mentally and physically for the week's "cricket". A handy
spinner at times but usually a little shaky with the bat. Might have a tough
time keeping him away from the "Chiang Mai Hussies".
Conrad "Chinaman" Young
A rare breed of a cricketing Chinaman, Conrad has been selected this year
to spearhead the bowling. Reason being every bowler in the Club has failed
so far this season. An active Hash Harrier so stamina shouldn't be a problem.
Not too impressive as a night watchman because he tends to call it stumps
after happy hour at most bars. Very able right hand batsman and delivers the
goods under pressure. Should be an asset for the "Kanga" cricket
if they want him!
