The team is sponsored by the Pectel group of companies, which includes building
companies in the UK and France.and has until recently been involved in motor
sports. The company is responsible for supplying the electronics for the successful
Nissans in the 1996 UK Touring Cars Championship, and the electronics for
Ford rally cars.
ROB ROBERTS : Entered under the name of Mr Mystery last year (the
reason for this I still cannot work out) considers himself a reasonable batsman
, though he was previously a useful bowler as he once topped the bowling averages
in the Yorkshire Riding League in the same year that Stevenson won the batting
award (would that be Pamela or Robert Louis ed.). This will be Rob's third
trip to the Chiang Mai sixes.
MARK ALLUM : A medium fast bowler who played in the Chiang Mai Sixes
for the first time last year . He is likely to be a little rusty in certain
parts as he has been working in the Middle East for the past six months
EDDIE BLACKWELL : This will be Eddie's second trip to Chiang Mai
if we can drag him away from the go go bars and golf courses. He fancies
himself as a wicket keeper as his bowling is well under par (or should that
be over par ed.).
STEVE ROSS : A Chiang Mai veteran, this will be his third trip to
the Sixes. He seems to limit his cricket experiences to this one week every
year as we cannot drag him away from the golf course for any of our practice
matches. His philosophy in life is 'who needs practice when you have natural
ability'.
PAUL PHILLIPS : The baby of the team in age but not in size , this
will be his second trip to the Sixes. He has the power to hit the ball quite
hard if he connects.
DAVID GARRED : This will be David's 2nd trip to Chiang Mai in fact
he was our star batsman in 1998 . He is noted for his hard hitting more in
line with cricketers from the West Indies rather than Australia whence he
originates David is the team's physical training instructor as he does this
for a living in Pattaya , and he is also a handy rugby player as his exploits
with the Pattaya Panthers demonstrate.
MIKE KELLY : He is the mystery man of the team as no one has ever
seen him playing cricket in Pattaya. Rumour has it that he used to play cricket
in Canada , but as he now resides in Pattaya , maybe he is mistaking cricket
with croquet, though he may have the last laugh after all.
