CHIANG MAI CRICKET SIXES:
INTO THE FINALS

by Peter Cummins

At the end of the penultimate day of the ongoing Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes being played at the 104-year-old Chiengmai Gymkhana Sports Club, the Perth Postels beating fellow Aussies the Stockton Seagulls and then demolished the Slammers to enter the semifinals and try to win back their 2000 Cup title. In the second definitive all-Aussie knock-out, the erstwhile unbeaten Warathais went down
- albeit, fighting - to the Lords Taverners. Alistair Field moved the Taverners into contention with a 31 retired and, then, bowling fiercely, kept the Warathais out, in spite of a valiant 2 not out by Trevor Chappell. The Taverners will meet the South African Almar CC in the second Cup semifinal.

Elsewhere, the 'new kids on the block', the talented English side the Kiteboys will meet the Bahrein-based Warbler Bunny Club in the Bowl final, If nothing else, it will be a colourful - and vociferous - match, with the exotic fans of the Warblers, 'recruited' from various night-spots around Chiang Mai, in "full flight" at the Warbler ringside camp!

With fine batting from Mike Gatting and Adrian Cade, the Ashwell Crusaders enter an all-English final against the Kirby Vampires for the Plate honours.

The children's tournament, the "Third Sixes Sawasdee Cricket Cup", played out on adjacent grounds among local schools, was the scene of much excitement and happiness, with Sai Moon A and B teams winning the two divisions, Grade Six and Grade Five. Montford College, Sahagon 2 and Sahagon 2, Rong Or were second and third in the Grade Six and Grade Five competitions, respectively.
